Careful preoperative examination for the day surgery regime is essential, just like for any other operation. In healthy patients (ASA I), we conduct standard preoperative evaluations. For patients classified as ASA II and ASA III, those who are being treated for certain conditions, we perform more detailed cardiological, pulmonary, diabetic, and internal examinations to ensure that they can handle the stress that any surgery entails and will be able to go home within 24 hours as expected.
The surgeon determines the extent of the preoperative examination. Based on previous evaluations and the indication for surgery, they will issue a request for all necessary preoperative tests.
The patient arranges for the examination with their general practitioner based on this request.
Preoperative examinations must be prepared several working days before the planned surgery and should not be older than 1 month for patients with ASA I and approximately 2 weeks for patients with ASA II and III.
Preoperative examination is a set of medical assessments conducted before surgery to ensure that the patient’s body can handle the surgical stress and postoperative course with an acceptable level of risk. The extent of this examination is determined by the scope and nature of the surgery, the patient’s age, and overall health status.
