About my work

I had the opportunity to establish a one-day surgery department in Prague’s Jižní Město, which I opened in 2001.
Here, I fully applied my professional experience from both clinical and regional surgical facilities.
We fully implement all the benefits of one-day surgery, ERAS principles, and other modern methodologies.
We have successfully built a compact surgical team, currently performing over 3,000 surgeries annually under general anesthesia, approximately 2,100 of which are laparoscopic.
We have three operating rooms and 29 fully monitored beds.
Currently, I focus primarily on more complex surgeries and overseeing the professional development of young doctors.

About me

I am married and have six children. I did triathlon for many years, and now I play tennis and ping-pong recreationally.
This year, I will run the Velká Kunratická for the 26th time.

Education

I graduated from the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in 1980, followed by a year of military service. Since 1981, I worked for 15 years at the Surgical Clinic of the Thomayer University Hospital in Prague.
Under the leadership of Dr. Jaromír Sváček and Associate Professor Dr. Vladimír Visokai, I gained comprehensive expertise in surgery and traumatology.
I obtained the first and second-degree surgical certification and an MBA in healthcare management.

Practice

In FTN, I was one of the pioneers of laparoscopic surgery.
Due to the fact that the surgical department at FTN had to provide extensive services for oncology patients and complete traumatology, there was not enough space for the development of planned laparoscopic surgery.
For this reason, in 1996, I transferred to the surgical department of the Neratovice Municipal Hospital, where under the leadership of Prim. MUDr. Drahoňovský, one of the most progressive laparoscopic centers in the country was established.
Prim. MUDr. Drahoňovský performed the first laparoscopic fundoplication in the country in 1995 and began laparoscopic surgeries on both the large and small intestines. Another domain of laparoscopy was the surgery of inguinal and abdominal hernias. Here, in 1999, I performed the first laparoscopic surgery on a recurrent umbilical hernia using a mesh, also as the first in the country.
